Friday 26th – Sunday 28th January 2018
Sizewell Hall Christian Conference Centre Suffolk
Speakers – Julia Murphy & Mary Lal-Sagar
Julia Murphy is currently the Anglican Chaplain at the University of Essex (Colchester). She has been ordained for almost 10 years and, in her previous life was for many years a PA/secretary. She worked in London, Germany and Switzerland, and has lived in Singapore, Germany, France and Switzerland. She had a dramatic conversion experience 25 years ago in Australia, and has never looked back. She studied at the University of Essex and graduated in 1981, but never dreamt that she would return as chaplain. She enjoys studying the bible, preaching, teaching and pastoral care.
Julia is single, enjoys walking her springer spaniel Joey, and caring for her elderly mother who lives in the next village. Her interests are film, theatre and country walks, and she makes a mean Rocky Road!
Mary Lal-Sagar lives in Charsfield, Woodbridge with her husband Graeme. She was born in Trinidad but moved to the United Kingdom in 1981 to pursue a career in Accountancy. She is a qualified accountant and worked in that profession for many years. After a heart attack and major heart surgery in 1992, she gave up full time work but runs a small accountancy practice from home. She does little accountancy nowadays, much preferring her Bible commentaries to accountancy books.
Mary’s love for Jesus arises from her upbringing. Her dad was a Minister in the Church of the Nazarene in Trinidad and both her parents worked in the vineyard there until her dad went home to be with the Lord at the age of 45.
Mary is blessed with a singing ministry and, since 2000 she has been singing country gospel music all over the county. She studied at Spurgeon College and is currently a lay preacher with the Eastern Baptist Assembly. Over the last 20 years, she has been a keen volunteer with many organisations including her local hospital.
Mary loves studying God’s word. She loves sharing the gospel of Christ with others and longs for “all to not perish but have everlasting life”. When she is not working, she enjoys playing her clarinet and guitar, sewing and spending time with her family.
